Sung Dong-il Opens Up About His Special Friendship with BTS V: “He’s Truly Kind and Sincere”

Actor Sung Dong-il recently captured fans’ hearts by sharing his special bond with BTS’s V (Kim Tae-hyung) a friendship that spans across generations.

Appearing on the YouTube channel “petiteRyujin” in the episode titled “Had a Drink with Dong-il Hyung”, Sung Dong-il was asked about his unexpectedly close connections in the entertainment industry. Host Ryu Jin curiously remarked, “You’re the only person I know your age who still keeps in touch with an idol. Do you still talk to BTS…?”
Sung Dong-il smiled and replied, “Tae-hyung? Yeah, he’s currently serving in Chuncheon.” He added warmly, “He’s kind… I like him because he’s sincere.”
Sung Dong-il and V first became friends while filming the historical drama “Hwarang” in 2016, where V starred alongside Park Seo-joon and Park Hyung-sik both of whom are also part of V’s famous friend group “Wooga Squad.” Their connection, built on the set, has grown into a lasting friendship.

The actor previously appeared in a reaction video supporting V’s solo release “FRI(END)S”, showing continued support even outside of acting. He has also mentioned on broadcasts that despite their 30-year age gap, he and V remain close. “People ask how we can meet up when we’re so far apart in age, but we just enjoy talking and making each other laugh,” Sung Dong-il shared.
He also revealed that V and fellow actor Park Bo-gum often visit his house and hang out until dawn. “Sometimes they come over, drink with me until late, or even just hang out while I sleep,” he laughed.

Even Sung Dong-il’s daughter, Binnie, has a sweet memory of V. “She knows Tae-hyung as the ‘oppa who brings gifts.’ He’s a fan of Binnie, and once after a concert in Japan, he sent her lots of presents,” he revealed.
V’s ability to connect deeply with others regardless of age or background has made him beloved across the industry. His Wooga Squad — Park Seo-joon, Choi Woo-sik, Park Hyung-sik, and Peakboy — is already well known. But his strong ties also extend to respected seniors like Lee Jung-jae, Kang Dong-won, PSY, IU, and Park Hyo-shin, proving his natural warmth and sincerity transcends boundaries.
Whether on screen or off, V continues to show that genuine friendships in K-entertainment can thrive, no matter the differences in age or experience.
